Restek were approached by Derby Homes to repair sections of balcony floors for eight apartment blocks. A total of 62 balconies requiring refurbishment.
The project involved removal of cast iron concrete nosings. Insertion of steel support beams, shuttering, concrete, asphalting and replacement fascia boards.
During the initial stage of breaking out the concrete nosings, it became apparent that the sectional beams were hollow and therefore further reinforcement had to be installed. Further tests to the other blocks indicated that there were two other blocks that required reinforcement.
Although unforeseen elements of these works altered the original programme, we utilised our years of experience to recommend the most effective method of repair with minimal affect to the programme of works thus showing our ability to react positively and decisively to any immediate problem encountered.
The decision to use the services of a ready mixed concrete supplier and hire of a crane pump saved many man hours, if not days in the pouring of the replacement concrete to the balconies.
